Blackboards
During my MFA 2002-4 , Sarah produced a series of Blackboards some in oil some in chalk. She was interested in the evolution of writing as a form of human communication and embedded in the work are writings that have been fully or partially erased. Written language, being a trace archaeology of what has preceded. She was interested in showing that meaning does not have one origin, and that one should challenge the fallacy of given knowledge being the truth. The broader influences on her work at that time were interests in language and mapping.
Later works on blackboard are Mari Lwyd/ Y Fari Lwyd 2014 and Ghost Bird Dreaming 2020 both of which describe liminal states.
